Chhatarpur is a district of Madhya Pradesh and is part of the eparchy of Satna. A very limited number of Catholics residing in Chhatarpur used to go to Nowgong to attend the Holy Eucharist. Later they requested for a church at their place.
Fr Xavier Kalappurackal VC, the assistant Parish Priest of Nowgong used to go to Chhatarpur and offered Holy Qurbana in different houses, on Sundays and other special days. As no suitable land was available, the priest contacted the MP Housing Board and got an LIG A/5 quarter with some 50 Sq. ft land around. In 1975, Fr John Parayil VC was appointed parish priest. On 7th July, 1976 he bought five acres land. A part of the presbytery was constructed and the priest began to stay there. In the mean time construction of a church had been taken up. The newly built church was blessed by for bishop Mar Abraham D Mattam, on 18th September, 1983. Later, on 20th September, 1984 the building was sold and then the parish priest, Fr Thomas Thelekat shifted his residence to the presbytery.
